Licensing ArcGIS

 

After receiving a license file from the GIS Coordinator, there are some final steps to complete licensing for your computer.  Please note you can also connect to the campus license server using the GSU VPN.

ArcGIS 10 (from ESRI)

  • Recommended: Use an Internet connection to complete the authorization steps below.
  • Based on your machine configuration and network traffic, the initial authorization process might take between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.
  • If you do not have an Internet connection for the machine you intend to install the software on, you can authorize the software via e-mail or Web site with the use of a second machine that has Internet access.
  1. After the installation, select the desired Single Use product in the ArcGIS Administrator Wizard.
  2. Click Authorize Now…
  3. Select “I have received an authorization file from ESRI and am now ready to finish the authorization process”.
  4. Browse to the saved location of the license file sent to you by the GIS Coordinator.
  5. Select Authorize with Esri now using the Internet.
  6. Click next
  7. Click next
  8. Choose “Your Organization, Your Industry, and Yourself”
  9. Click next
  10. Click next
  11. Click Finish after the authorization process is complete.
  12. Click OK to close the ArcGIS Administrator. Your software is now ready for use.

ArcGIS 9.X

Note:  These instructions are for ArcGIS 9.x products and can be found on ESRI’s website in a more detailed format here .

1.  If not previously licensed, please download the ArcGIS keyless License Manager “lmsetupkeyless.exe” found here .  Make sure you download the “keyless” version.

2.  Save the license file that you were sent by the GIS Coordinator to a known place on your computer.

3.  Ensure you are logged in with administrative privileges

4.  Run “lmsetupkeyless.exe”. (Note: If running Windows Vista or 7, please make sure you right-click the file and select “Run as Administrator”)

5.  Click “Browse” and navigate to the license file you just saved.

6.  Finish the setup program.

7.  Navigate to Start -> All Programs -> ArcGIS -> Desktop Administrator.  Once there, choose “License Manager”.  Click “Change” and then type “localhost” (no quotations).  Press “Ok” twice.
